Lately I've been busy testing
several camera packs for an upcoming review. It's been a great excuse
to get out and shoot even when conditions are not ideal, and to carry
gear I normally wouldn't drag around. Those f/2.8 zooms do have a good
reputation for a reason. To test the packs carrying ability out I've
also been using a tripod much more often than normal, and it has
reminded me that to really get everything out of the higher resolution
sensors, accurate focusing and tripod technique is more important than
the lens. Image stabilization is nice for things like weddings, but in
landscape work a good tripod is still the king.
